In the Fall of 2019, after a 6 year break from Cirque du Soleil, I re-joined the company as the bandleader and violist for the creation of their new touring show, 'Under the Same Sky'. This show was set to debut in April of 2020. However, we, along with most of the world, were shut down for the pandemic in March of 2020 and the show went on a 3 year break.
In January of 2023, I re-rejoined Cirque du Soleil as 'Same Sky' was finally slated to open, however now under the name, 'ECHO'. ECHO opened in April of 2023 in Montreal and is still on tour today. As the bandleader for the creation of this show, I spent many months in the dark winter of 2023 working 20 hour days to get ECHO up and on its feet. I was able to stay with the show for its initial first 2 years, performing in Montreal, Tysons Virginia, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto and Gatineau. During that time we performed over 500 shows for around a million spectators.
I was so incredibly lucky to be the bandleader and violist for an incredible group of musicians. Each one a soloist in their own right, each one so generous and supportive. They each performed so beautifully and I still can’t believe how fortunate I was to be with them as long as I was.
It took me about 45 minutes every day to apply my makeup. As there were over 50 artists on our show, it would take too long to have the wardrobe and makeup department put on our makeup for us. So we were each taught how to apply our own makeup through several private lessons before the show opened.
